Waxed Jackets

Filson pioneered manufacturing work clothes made with waxed canvas as early as the 1920s. The term “waxed jacket” is really just a modern name given to the type of rainwear that Filson has manufactured for the last century. In the rain-soaked forests of the Pacific Northwest, avid sportsmen and forestry professionals trust Filson Tin Cloth because it’s the original waxed canvas with a century of proven toughness.

Old School Cool

This is my first waxed canvas jacket and I must say I do like it. The weight, movement, and sound of wear are all very different from my typical technical synthetic outer wear. I’m 5’11” 220 pounds and wear a 44 suit coat. The XL is perfect. I wear it with both t-shirts and flannels.

Exceptional Standout Packer Coat

Heavy Duty Ranch coat. Military grade. Buttons solid and in the correct position when on horse or driving in truck. Collar outstanding, well designed. Very warm in cold weather and in the trenches. Like the length. Use item size chart to order not body size.

Tin Cloth Work Jacket Is Awesome!

Fabulous jacket! I love this jacket. I live in rural Montana and we have some seriously cold and severe weather. This jacket works well with layers. It repels rain, snow and wind. Looks great too!

Top Of The Line Field Jacket

Best field jacket I own. I’ve purchased several field jackets from different companies. Filson’s is top-notch in quality and durability. Unmatched in all areas. Ample pockets and suitable for their many wool liners .

Men's Waxed Jackets: The Original Rainwear of Mariners and Foresters

What is a Waxed Canvas Jacket?

A waxed jacket is made from cotton that’s treated with wax to make it water-resistant. Evolved from the oiled sailcloth once used by 18th-century mariners for protection from weather and waves, current-day waxed cotton fabrics are treated with paraffin or beeswax-based formulas.

What are the Advantages of Waxed Cotton Jackets?

Waxed jackets are highly durable, softening with use and molding to the shape of your body. A Filson Tin Cloth jacket will not be damaged by thorns, brush, or sparks flying off a campfire. Our jackets, pants, and bags made with waxed canvas can be reproofed to maintain and even improve their water resistance over the years. What really sets a Filson waxed jacket apart, however, is the repairs we offer that can dramatically extend its service life. Waxed canvas should never be washed – just brush the mud off and hang it to dry. Over the years, a waxed jacket will develop its own unique patina that tells the story of miles traveled and jobs done well.
