Unfailing Jackets for the Angler
What to Look for in a Fishing Jacket?
A rain jacket for fishing should first and foremost keep you dry. For maximum water protection, look for a synthetic jacket with a waterproof membrane and full seam-sealing. The best insulated fishing jackets dry quickly, pack small, and insulate even when wet. For a natural, more sustainable option, waxed-cotton jackets are highly water-resistant and provide warmth.
Layering for Fishing
To be prepared for changing weather when fishing, multiple light layers provide the ability to add or remove layers as conditions change. Merino wool is an ideal next-to-skin layer. Available in multiple weights, it is warm even when wet, wicks moisture, and is comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. Combinations of shirts and/or light sweaters make the middle layer. Your outer layer should be wind-resistant, packable, and quick-drying. When the weather turns wet, a rain jacket with room to wear over the other layers completes the system.
