Filson × Wild Kingdom: Legacies in the Wild

The wild is Filson’s proving ground. Since 1897, we’ve built gear tough enough to take on the worst that nature can deliver. Waxed canvas that sheds water and wear. Wool that holds through the coldest storms. Bags that outlast lifetimes.

Durability is more than toughness, it’s also about sustainability. A jacket that can be repaired instead of replaced means one less in the landfill. A bag passed down through a family means fewer resources spent making another. Longevity, in its truest sense, is conservation. Real quality isn’t just about gear that lasts. It’s about standing up for the wild and the people who protect it.

From our beginnings, Filson has equipped generations of rangers, scientists, and conservationists to help safeguard the outdoors around the world. That commitment continues today through our newest partnership with Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.

Same ground. Same fight. A television series that has inspired generations to care for wild places and an outfitter trusted by those who go out to defend them. Wild Kingdom brings the wild into homes. Filson equips the folks who step beyond their doorstep and venture into it.

“The next time you see a corner of the world untouched by man. Will we humans be better off if we save some of what was here before we came? Should we try to preserve this wildlife? Can it be saved by conservation methods? The answer is, it must. If we do, we can ensure for those who follow us, that there will always be a wild kingdom.”

In 1963, the show’s legendary host Marlin Perkins first brought lions, elephants, and wolves into American homes. Animals most folks had only seen in books or cages. His steady voice shared their stories, while the footage revealed the wild in all its power, beauty, and hardship.Wild Kingdomdid more than entertain. It sparked a generation to get outdoors and became one of the first voices calling to protect animals when many species faced serious danger.

Perkins himself posed the question: “The next time you see a corner of the world untouched by man. Will we humans be better off if we save some of what was here before we came? Should we try to preserve this wildlife? Can it be saved by conservation methods? The answer is, it must. If we do, we can ensure for those who follow us, that there will always be a wild kingdom.”

Sixty years later, that mission continues, sharper and more urgent than ever. Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild carries forward the spirit of the original while meeting today’s conservation challenges head-on. Co-hosted by wildlife expert Peter Gros and wildlife ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant, a Filson Women’s Trailblazer, the series brings front-line conservation stories to life across the United States.

Outfitted in Filson gear, Gros and Wynn-Grant join scientists tagging endangered California condors, researchers descending into caves to monitor bats with white-nose syndrome, and marine biologists working to regrow coral in Florida’s warming waters. Their journeys reveal the work behind conservation: habitats restored, data collected, and partnerships forged with local communities. They show both obstacles and victories, and spotlight the persistence, innovation, and teamwork needed to protect the species that call wild places home

Their mission echoes our own. The wild calls. Rivers run. Forests rise. Animals roam. But only if we choose to protect them. This partnership continues a tradition of storytelling and stewardship, honoring the wilderness by defending it and preparing those who answer its call. It’s a legacy built not just on survival but on ensuring a thriving wild for generations to come.
