Filson Food: Drunken Bacon S’mores

smores1

YOU KNOW WHAT A S’MORE IS. THEY’VE BEEN A CAMPING STAPLE AROUND THE FIRE FOR AS LONG AS ANY OF US CAN REMEMBER. BUT WHAT WE HAVE HERE TODAY IS A CLEVER AND BOOZY UPGRADE. THESE S’MORES ARE IRRESISTIBLE THANKS TO THEIR SWEET AND SALTY COMBO. BOURBON, BACON, AND CHOCOLATE ARE THE STARS OF THE SHOW AND MAKE FOR A CAMPFIRE TREAT THAT UPSTAGES THE CLASSIC VERSION.

As for the bourbon, use any kind you like or have on hand. When it comes to the amount of bourbon in this recipe, use as much or as little as you see fit. The recipe is just a guideline.

Try this out on your next camping trip. You most likely will have all the ingredients with you already.

Ingredients
(makes 4)
drunk2
a cast iron skillet sitting next to an axe and a red and black plaid shirt

4 marshmallows

3 oz. of milk chocolate broken up into small pieces

8 graham cracker wafers

4 Tbsps. of bourbon of your choice (This is just a guide: use as much or as little as you like. You just need enough to allow you to melt the chocolate in and for it still taste “boozy.”)

4 strips of bacon

DIRECTIONS

When the chocolate is creamy and the bourbon is incorporated, take the wafers and dip them flat into the pan. Remove and allow the chocolate to cool and set aside.

Grab another cast iron pan, preheat it over the fire, and cook bacon to your liking.

Place marshmallows over chocolate-covered graham cracker wafers. Top with bacon and another wafer.

Enjoy!

Note: You can cover both wafers for an extra-chocolaty, boozy s’more. Like I said, the recipe is just a guideline!
