Briefcases

Filson briefcases are made from time-tested waxed-cotton fabrics. The Filson Original Briefcase, introduced in 1992, is made with our proprietary Rugged Twill. This fabric is a lightly waxed, tightly-woven cotton twill that’s extremely abrasion-resistant. The straps on Rugged Twill briefcases are made from vegetable-tanned Bridle Leather that is strong enough for horse tack. Filson also makes briefcases with the iconic waxed cotton, Tin Cloth. This canvas earned its reputation for durability in jackets and pants used by foresters and sportsmen in the Pacific Northwest.

Are Canvas Messenger Bags Water Resistant?

The wax treatment of Filson Rugged Twill and Waxed Canvas briefcases makes them highly water-resistant. Waxing cotton is a time-proven method of making the fabric turn away water. Tin Cloth briefcases can be rewaxed time and again to maintain their weatherproof properties.

How Do You Care For a Canvas Briefcase?

Filson briefcases should not be washed, as detergents will strip the wax from the fabric and reduce its water resistance. Simply brush or wipe off dirt, and let the waxed cotton develop its unique character and patina. Leather straps and handles should be treated with leather conditioner or wax annually to keep them from drying out.
