We recently completed our Filson Youth Shotgun Clinic, with Andy Duffy, during the 9th Annual US Western Open. The event was held at the Top Gun Club, located in Mt Vernon, WA, an hour north of Seattle. The clinic consisted of five NSCA juniors/subjrs that were drawn this year from three different tournaments that Filson is intimately involved with. WA State Sporting Clays Championships, OR State Sporting Clays Championships and the Filson Open. The “Lucky Five” received a free entry to the Main Event and a three hour clinic. The clinic consisted of class room discussions about the “hand, head, eye, pace” importance along with hands on target shooting. Although the clinic was held last Thursday afternoon, Andy’s continual pointers to the kids throughout the weekend encourage the excitement to be carried through to the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. There were comments from both the juniors and the parents about how certain tips from the clinic were applied to their events and they were all ecstatic to see positive results. This sport is fortunate to have individuals like Andy who take the time to share his experiences and wisdom - all obtained through winning 12 National Championships and half as many International Titles. All of you that have competed or currently compete in sports know that the “Mental Game” becomes a key factor for success. So, it is wonderful that our youth of today can receive positive instructions and encouragements from not only the “Andys” of the sport but also from all others who possess the passion for the shooting world. When you combine the atmosphere created from this clinic and that from the world class venue of Top Gun (that has been described by many as the “Disneyland” of the shooting world), it is quickly understood why everyone had success at this years US Western Open. Looking forward to next year, William Simmons Filson Shooting Ambassador
