    Is Filson an ethical company?

    Since 1897 Filson has manufactured products with natural-fiber, sustainable materials such as wool and cotton. All of our goose down is RDA-compliant processed in bluesign®-approved facilities. Much of our synthetic insulation includes recycled content and is sourced from environmentally conscious mills. We use Bridle Leather that is naturally tanned without the caustic chemicals prevalent in other tanning methods. Filson partners with suppliers who share our standards for human and environmental responsibility.

    Does Filson run big?

    Filson clothing fits such that the wearer has room to perform the activities for which the product was intended. For example, workwear allows room to layer and move freely, while base layers will fit closer to the body. While some brands fit a narrow range of body styles, Filson’s is a universal fit that works regardless of body shape.

    Do Filson shirts shrink?

    Filson shirts are built with preshrunk fabric, and many are also garment-washed to minimize shrinkage. If the care instructions are followed, there should be minimal, if any shrinkage.

    Are Filson hats waterproof?

    Many Filson hats are built with waxed cotton or wool and are quite water resistant. We also build waterproof hats constructed with our trademarked waterproof Rain Cloth™ and sealed seams.

    Do Filson hats run small?

    To ensure a proper fit for our sized hats, measure the circumference of you head with a flexible tape measure, then choose the corresponding hat size indicated on our size chart. Hats built with waxed cotton and wool may shrink a bit over time, so we recommend allowing room for slight shrinkage when ordering. If your hat fits loosely initially, pieces of flannel or felt can be inserted under the sweatband to customize the fit.

    Can you stretch a Filson hat?

    Filson hats can sometimes be stretched with a professional hat stretcher that uses gradual pressure and heat. Caution is advised–excessively stretching a hat can damage the hatband or sweatband. We’ve found that stretched hats tend to return their pre-stretched size over time.
