A WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER for the U.S. Forest Service and Wyoming Hotshots crew member, Kyle Miller is not a photographer — just a guy who is drawn to fighting wildfire on the front line, who happens to have a camera.
Since 2013, he’s been bringing a camera as part of his fireline gear, but it took some courage to start bringing it into the fire with him.
“A photographer I admire said ‘you might get good pictures, but you’ll never get great pictures if you’re afraid of ruining your camera,’ and that changed everything for me.”
Kyle may be humble, but his work is powerful. “I wouldn’t call any of it great yet, but shooting by that philosophy has definitely helped me get better shots and maybe a broken camera.”
