In Your Words: Filson in the Central Andes

Andes1‘In Your Words’ explores the incredible stories we’ve received from Filson fans across the globe, and it’s safe to say that Dale Burns has become a Filson fan for life. After subjecting his Filson garments to the extreme conditions of fieldwork in the Central Andes, Dale felt compelled to share his thoughts on our durable and lasting product.  Send us your own experiences with our clothing or product here for a chance to be featured on the Filson Life blog.

As a geologist I am often required to conduct field work in formidable conditions. In the past few years I have twice traveled to the northern Chile to conduct field studies. Commonly, I work at elevations in access of 17,500 feet where temperatures rarely get above freezing, and the winds are strong enough that eye protection is often required to shield from the whipping sand. The most essential items in my field wardrobe are my Filson Oil Finish Double Tin pants and Tin Cloth Jacket. Even on the worst of days, I have been completely protected from the elements. The Tin Cloth completely blocks the the wind and keeps the sand out. In addition, the durability of the Tin Cloth is second to none, holding up seamlessly to months of kneeling, sliding, and sitting on sharp rocks and gravel. I am now a lifetime Filson customer and will continue to recommend Filson products to my friends and colleagues in the future.
