Veteran fly fisherman Kerry Burkheimer has spent decades fishing the mossy flats and meandering rivers of Washington, but these days he heads to the banks for more than a love of the sport. Burkheimer is not just looking to experience fishing, but perfect it.
Sixteen years ago, he launched his own fly rod company, C.F. Burkheimer, building custom rods with California redwood burls and cork sculpted to fit a future caster's hand. A few blocks from Kerry's shop, the mighty Columbia River rambles on, fins twitching just beneath the water's surface. We headed out for early morning bites with Burkheimer to talk fishing and philosophy, creating this short documentary of a dedicated angler.
The fish wasn't the only thing hooked - Kerry has been devoted to fly fishing ever since.
