The San Juan Hand Net is made by hand, one at a time, by Bob Nelson, a fisherman and craftsman in Tacoma, Washington. Nelson, a woodworker by trade, got into the fish-net business after he made himself a net that became the envy of a few local guides. Each of Nelson’s wood-handled nets are made with a rubber bag that won’t snag hooks and is more sensitive to fish than nylon. The San Juan is ideal when you’re fishing in places like the Blackfoot River, where it’s commonplace to pull in fish over 20 inches.
