    Repair Policy

As you’ve no doubt read in our Guarantee and Return Policy about all Filson products, the workmanship, craftsmanship, and materials are protected against failure for the lifetime of the item. In the event your Filson item fails in one of these categories, oftentimes we can repair the piece.

    Condition and Appearance of Repair

Regardless of the item (garment, luggage, or otherwise), all repairs are made with the objective of preserving the integrity and rugged durability you’ve come to expect from Filson. At times customers are taken aback by the appearance of a high quality repair. If you’re not used to seeing this type of repair, it can be jarring aesthetically and the item can never look brand new (as if it just came off the store shelf—this is simply impossible once used and subsequently damaged), however we can guarantee the repair under the same warranty that covers every other Filson product. That is how much we believe in our repairs and the production team who performs these repairs.

    Non-Warranty Repairs

Some repairs incur a charge based on the cost of labor and materials. While we cannot determine the cost of any given repair via phone or email—all Filson items must be evaluated by our Returns Team—we will always notify you and await approval prior to proceeding with any repair.

    Repairs We Cannot Make

For various reason we cannot make all repairs. For example, sewing over the same place twice on some materials can compromise the integrity of those materials and actually does more damage to the item. We often receive items with so much wear from use the fabric will not sustain any kind of repair. In other cases, the costs of labor and materials associated with deconstructing and reconstructing a piece would be greater than building one from scratch. In situations such as those, we simply do not have the manpower or time/space on our production floor to fulfill these sorts of requests. There are many reasons which might make a repair not possible but here is a short list of the most commonly requested repairs which, regrettably, we cannot perform.

    • Wallets
    • Zippers on luggage
    • Base layers (e.g. long johns) and socks
    • Gloves
    • Headwear
    • Suspenders
    • Dry Bags
    • Imported shirts
    • Most collaboration items or items made by other vendors (e.g. products made by Sebago, Burton, Airwalk, Van’s, Jacob Bromwell, NW Axe Co., Cowichan styles, etc.)

As stated above, every item is subject to an evaluation by our Returns Team.

How to Send an Item in for Repair

We recommend calling Customer Service in order to set up an order for your repair. Once this is done, retain the order number for your records. When shipping an item to Filson, please use a delivery method which includes tracking and save the tracking number as well. Due our very tight production schedule and the number of repair inquiries we receive, please anticipate up to 4-6 weeks (from the day of delivery to Filson) for any given repair.

    Things to Know About Reproofing:

    • Best to reproof yearly, depending on usage.
    • Reproofing protects the garment from the elements.
    • Reproofing prolongs the life of the product.
    • Do not machine wash or dry clean a waxed cotton garment.
    • Garments should be cleaned of mud and debris prior to being sent for reproofing.
    • Remove zip in liners and empty pockets before shipping back.
    • Reproofing revives the color of the garment.
    • Garments will be temporarily stiff and will soften with wear.
    • Customers seeking to reproof small areas or items such as hats still have the option to purchase our wax.
    • We will not reproof other brands - only Filson
