Filson products are created based on the promise of durable, dependable functionality in and out of the field. Engineered design, the best quality materials, and exacting construction are the hallmarks of a Filson product.
Since the introduction of Filson sportswear in October 2005, we have received many letters from dedicated customers stating their concerns over our decision to outsource the production of some of these products. We feel you deserve an explanation.
Our sourcing approach is to utilize factories that are best suited to specific products. The strength of our Seattle factory is in manufacturing heavyweight wool apparel, waxed cotton garments, and rugged twill luggage with sturdy bridle leather trim. We are proud that our factory is one of few in the world that can produce and deliver these unique products. We will continue to manufacture these products here in our Seattle factory and add new items that fit into our factory’s skill set.
We understand that our customers have outfitting needs including lighter weight outerwear and sportswear. In some cases the only way to maintain Filson's commitment to quality is to manufacture these products in factories other than our own, including overseas. The overseas factories we have selected have invested in technically advanced machinery and maintain the highest levels of craftsmanship to manufacture product consistent with our standards. All Filson products manufactured in Seattle or in factories other than our own go through the same multi-point quality review here at our Seattle headquarters.
